To encourage employee participation, the nationwide PRIMA competition was created in 2001. These five letters stand for "Produktionssteigerung und Innovation durch Mitarbeiterbeteiligung" - increased production and innovation through employee participation. An innovation competition in which prizes are awarded for projects that are characterised by team spirit and particular employee motivation. Projects are sought to improve profitability, customer service, and procedures. There are presently 14 German public transport companies involved in the initiative. It is an annual, nationwide competition coordinated by BSAG and took place for the second time in 2002.
