Semester ticket
You will automatically receive your semester ticket ("Semersterticket, bis 31.03.03") as soon as you have enrolled in your university or institute of higher education. It is only valid if you have official identification (with your photograph on it).
Those with a semester ticket may travel as often as they like within the entire VBN network as well as to Norddeich, Emden, Esens, Wilhelmshaven, Cuxhaven, and to Essen (Oldb). When travelling on Deutsche Bahn's IC trains, an IC surcharge must be paid additionally.
Students of the University of Bremen, the IUB, the DAV, and the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen already have an expanded semester ticket ("Semesterticket erweitert, bis 31.03.03") that includes use of the rail routes to Hamburg, Hanover, and Osnabrück.
For all other universities and institutions of higher education, this rule will apply from the start of the summer semester 2003 ("Semesterticket ab 01.04.03").
