The new bus network Bremen Nord

Well connected – new connections: The innovations of the new annual time table 2012 for Bremen-Nord and around

The new annual time table 2012 Bremen-Nord, valid from December 11th, will bring great changes for the passengers of the Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG): The Regio S-Bahn RS1 between Farge, Vegesack, Burg, Bremen Mainstation and Verden will start its operation and allow new changing possibilities. This also will have significant effects on the time tables of the BSAG busses. In the appreciation of the many passengers the bus network was adjusted to the new possibilities of the public transport system. Affected are not only the routing but the time tables: The most important bus lines for example will be arranged to a custom-fit connection to the 15 and 30 minutes interval of the railway. In short: Bus and railway will be an interesting  alternative to the individual traffic, for the now possible combination of the means of transport of the public transportation is clearly outmatched ecologically and economically – comfortable, convenient and on time any way.

Besides in Bremen-Nord there are a lot of wishes from politics, administration and the community members, regarding the in-town traffic. For many Bremen-Norder are moving between respectively within the districts Blumenthal, Vegesack, Burglesum and Gröpelingen. This applies accordingly within the community of Schwanewede.
As a result the BSAG presents a fully changed bus network with changed intervals and time tables. It has many advantages and also some changes compared to the familiar concept. So the lines in Bremen-Nord will get new numbers, namely 90 to 99. That surely means reorganisation for all, but leads to more attention and will help to avoid confusion and mistakes.

  • The familiar 70 lines will be leaved out
  • For the new 90 numbers for the bus network Bremen-Nord will not be enough, some connections will get 80 numbers.
  • The tours of the hitherto existing night line taxi N8 will go on as line N94

Appointed date: December 11th

The VBN annual time table 2012 for Bremen-Nord als well as for Schwanewede, Oslebshausen and Ohlenhof will start on Sunday December 11th 2011, and will be valid until Saturday December 8th 2012. From July 23rd until August 31st 2012 a vacation time table will be valid at the BSAG, of which information will be given on time.

The good start: New lines, new connections

In future the most important lines will be served by the lines 90, 93, 94, 96 and 98. They will go every day of the week except in night times.
At times of greater request (for example rush-hours and school traffic) additional lines will be supportive. Those not only provide compacter intervals, but also additional direct connections without changing lines. For they go partly on other headings. Further more there will be the familiar night line N7 in the evenings and the night line taxi N94 of the BSAG as well as on weekends the Nachtschwärmer N61 of the VBN.

New time tables, new intervals

The familiar ten minutes interval of the most important bus lines does not fit to the 15 minutes interval of the Regio S-Bahn line RS1. Therefor it was adjusted for „good connections“. The regular interval of the BSAG lines will be changed to a 15 minutes interval. Therefor many routes will be served by two or more lines. In this way on many routes will partly be more movements than before. On routes less used it will be a little less. The start times of the lines the BSAG has scheduled the lines „on gap“ on the route parts used together, so that there are compacter time tables. For the connections at the changing stations should be secured, unfortunately this is not possible everywhere.

From wishes to connections

The new network gives most of the users of the public transportation a lot of advantages. With this new offers the BSAG is able to fulfill many wishes of the community:

  • In the Sagerstraße will be around 25% less tours than before. That means a noticeable traffically relief for the Vegesacker Centre. However some passengers, for example at routes from Rönnebeck to Vegesack, will have to change lines at Bahnhof Blumenthal.
  • On heavy used connections (for example Buschdeel – Bahnhof Blumenthal or Bockhorn – Bahnhof Blumenthal) more tours will be offered. This is possible depending on the regular additional lines. Therefor however the speed bus lines are canceled.
  • From Bremen-Nord there will be a direct connection to the Bremer Industriepark and of course back, with the line combination 91/81.
  • The routing of line 90 over Hammersbeck enables a new direct connection to Klinikum Bremen-Nord; passengers from Neuenkirchen to Lindenstraße will have to change to the lines 91, 92 and 94 at Bahnhof Blumenthal.
  • Bahnhof Burg will be more of a public transportation platform between the Regio S-Bahn and the bus lines with short passages and humble waiting time for changing lines.
  • Between Bahnhof Burg, the Heerstraßenzug and Gröpelingen lines 90, 93 and 94 will be better on gap, so there will be a bus almost every five, seven and a half or 15 minutes.
  • The new arranged line 81 gives the passengers from Gröpelingen as well as passengers from the Industriepark a better accessability of the Regio S-Bahn at Bahnhof Oslebshausen in direction Bremen-Nord respectivley Mainstation and Verden.

Numbers to remember

The most important lines in Bremen-Nord and around are:

  • Line 90 (like the todays line 71): Neuenkirchen/Heidstraße-Bahnhof Farge-Bahnhof Blumenthal-Bahnhof Aumund-Bahnhof Vegesack-Bahnhof Schönebeck-Bahnhof Lesum-Bahnhof Burg-Gröpelingen.

  • Line 98: Dobbheide-Bahnhof Aumund-Bahnhof Vegesack. Almost taking over line 79.

  • Line 80 (Call-Linientaxi or Linientaxi): Gröpelingen-Hüttenstraße Süd-Bahnhof Oslebshausen (unchanged).
